The balloon ascension was the greatest feature of th. fair. The young lady who made the ascensions and parachuts Jumps was Madam. De Vonde. Just before making her trip on Friday afternoon she said to an Eagle representatle, "Thl.

will be my seven ty second ascension. I am delighted In the work and have no fear at all. It Is truly fascinating, and when I leave the ground and the people grow smaller It la difficult for me to describe the sensation to you. "Have I ever had an accident? Well, not any serious ones. Once when I enme down I landed on, a barb wire fence and escaped Ith a slight cut on the arm The only lime I am nervous Is Just before the start There Is always a crowd of small boys around and I am afraid they might get tangled In the ropes.

On one occasion a small boy became tangled In the ropes and went up with me, I nnnlly got on the bar with me and we csme down In safety, neither of us being hurt. It Is ery fascinating life and I like II ery much." Mndame De Vonde. whose right name Is Miss Carroll. Is twenty three years of age, and the man who operates the balloon Is her husband After the balloon leaves the ground he watches It until he thinks It has reached a sufficient altitude and then gives bis wife the signals to prepare for th. Jump by means of a revoher.
