Karen Cocco Engaged To Thomas Slattery Jr. Mr. and Mrs. John Cocco, Clark announce the betrothal of their daughter, Karen Lee, to Thomas E. Slattery Jr.

He is the son of Detective and Mrs. Thomas, Slattery 73 Southgate Drive, TOWn of Poughkeepsie. A 1968 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Miss Cocco was graduated this year from Dutchess Community, College. She is employed as a legal secretary at the Attorney General's office in Poughkeepsie. Mr.

Slattery is a 1967 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. He attended Dutchess Community College and is employed as a credit manager for W. T. Grant Co. Wedding plans are incomplete.

Louise Jacobs Betrothed To Gregory Michael Lyons Mr. and Mrs. David S. Jacobs, Yonkers, announce the engagement of their daughter, Louise Marie, to Gregory Michael Lyons. He is the son of Mrs.

Philip A. Lyons, Pine Plains, formerly of. Yonkers. and the late Mr. Lyons: Miss Jacobs, a graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry, is attending Iona College, New Rochelle.

An alumnus of the Cranwell Preparatory School, Lenox, Mr. Lyons was graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass. He also attended Fordham Law School. The wedding is planned for early next year. MISS LOUISE JACOBS Foreign Correspondent To Address Sisterhood Leonard Whartman, Middle East bureau chief of the Mutual Broadcasting System and RK0-Westinghouse Radio will address members of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El Monday night.

The session will commence at 8:15 p.m. at the temple. A graduate of Temple University and Gratz College in Philadelphia, Mr. Whartman served with the Information Division in the Philippines, during World War II. In 1947 he went to Palestine and served in the Hagannah during the Israeli War of Independence.

Mr. Whartman remained in Israel to help form the Israeli Broadcast System. He writes extensively in newspapers and magazines here and in Israel, England, Canada and South Africa. His topic at this open meetIng will be "A Foreign Correspondent Views the Middle East." A Dec. 5 wedding is planned. Poughkeepsie Rotary Club To Hear Bard College Dean The speaker at Wednesday's meeting of the Poughkeepsie Rotary Club will be Carl M. Selinger, dean of Bard College. The club meets at noon at the YMCA.

Dr. Selinger, who has an A.B. degree from the University of California (Berkeley) and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, was' professor of law at the University of New Mexico before assuming his post at Bard. He has also been a Teaching Fellow at Harvard Law School, a professor of law at Albany Law School, and a practicing attorney in California. Dr.

Selinger is the author of articles on problems in higher education and the sociology of the legal profession, and his talk at Rotary will be concerned with No Fault Automobile Accident Insurance, a question on which he wrote in the July 1970 issue of the American Bar Association Titled CARL M. SELINGER "Automobile Accident Litigation and the Bar," the article maintained that fault system trials have reduced the public's confidence in the legal profession.
