Assemblymen Maurice Hlnchey, Ul ster, co sponsor of the bill, said It will go to the full Assembly "In a week or so." Mary Oeodhoe, Westchester, Is carrying the measure la the Senate. Hlnchey said the blU he and Ms. Good hue are sponsoring would create a compu terlzed listing of children under age If who' are missing In New York state, and link It With a national computerized register est up under the Missing Children's Act of iiss.

The state bill would require law officials to promptly report missing or abducted children so that their Identifications can be quickly filed in the mlsslng chlldren register. Hlnchey said the bill would "establish a mechanism for quick retrieval of Information. Including extensive Information on Identifying data for each chUd listed." There Is already a private agency that has compiled a listing of missing children nationwide Child Find, of New PalU. N.Y. The state has put a hold on 50,000 earmarked for that agency pending an Investigation Into alleged financial Irregularities by an organisation that raises funds for Child Find.

Child Find credits Itself with helping to locate more than KO missing children since Its founding In II to. At least II missing children were located through Child Find as a result of two showings of the film "Adam" on network television. The film chronicled the abduction of a year old Florida boy and the futile attempt by his parents to find him. Child Find officials have said that the failure of lew enforcement agencies to act quickly on reports of child abductions and missing children can Jeopardize ever locating those youths. Hlnchey said the state register would help Identify children who art found but whose parents are unknown, "or In those tragic cases when the Identity of a deceased child Is unknown." The bill would enable police and state 'agencies to gain access to "Instant lnfot on whether or not this child Is missing and what can be done about It," said Hlnchey.

Hlnchey said he did not know how many other states had organized such a register or are trying to do so, but said passage of the legislation would place New York "la the forefront of concern for the fate of our children." There may be as many as a million missing children In the United States, according to Hlnchey. Ms. Goodhue said she thought chances of the full Senate passing the legislation were "excellent." Hlnchey said he couldn't "Imagine any rational opposition to the bill." Linaerie.fr Less I i 4r M. j.wvwlrronl 5TJMj "The lrnt Discounter 1067 UNION AVENUf, NEWBURGH MAU. NCWBUIGH.
