A unique feature of the weddings she performs is a "blessing of the home" service for the couples. "In the last 11 years, I've performed about 550 weddings," says Arnold, "and only two couples didn't have the blessing of the home." The minister says she doesn't conduct funerals for the departed, but "celebrations of life" instead. Arnold often goes to calling hours held at funeral homes to talk to relatives and friends of the deceased to gather the material she will include in her celebration of life service, which she types up later at home.

In addition to her divinity degree, she earned a degree from Columbia University in counseling and also is involved in this pursuit with her constituents as well as others. One reason Arnold's services still Area Continued from page 5A are needed is because of'a shortage of ministers today in the Methodist as well as other churches. The shortage, she explains, is why she has stayed on as an interim minister. She said there is a tremendous demand on a minister's time, leaving little time left for family activities or recreation. As a minister, Arnold often worked 12 to 15 hours a day' and sometimes as many as 18 hours.

Although many ministers today do. not want two or three church parishes, Arnold didn't mind serving two churches. "I liked having different congregations," she explained. "They had different needs, but that made it interesting." There were 112 members at the Wingdale church and 200 in the Dover church. Each Sunday, she conducted a 9:30 a.m.

service in Wingdale, then hurried to Dover for an 11 a.m. service. She preached different sermons.
