me crowning of the new queen, succeeding Sylvia Hitchcock of Miami, was scheduled for shortly before midnight Sat urday. Even before she' is rested, from a hectic week of rehears als, Miss Universe is for rent at 11,000 a day. Miss U.S.A., also "owned" by (he Miss Universe Corp. for a year, Is available for $750 a day fully chaperoned and travel ing first class. Herbert K.

Landon. executive director of the pageant to select "the most beautiful girl in tne universe," explained how the Miss Universe corporation, a subsidiary of Kayser Roth can commercialize curves and make ends meet, "Our income derives from paymen for television rights and contracts for appearances by Miss U.S.A. and Miss Universe," Landon said. Miss U.SA, for Instance Dorothy Anstett of Kirkiand, Wash. planned to resume her appearances Tuesday at a wat ermelon festival in Pageiand, S.C., so long as lightning did not strike Saturday night and make her the second Miss U.S A in a row to win the Miss Universe crown.

But a runner up in the Miss U.S.A. competition stood by to take over just in case "But if a topless joint offered us $5,000 to have Miss Universe appear at the opening, I'd turn it down," Landon said. Landon said "Procter and Gamble Corp. pays approxi mately $300,000 for the rights to sponsor national television shows of the Miss U.SA. and Miss Universe contests." If both the girls were "'rented out" each day of the year not a practical prospect the corporation could take in another $638,750 before expenses and taxes.

The sale of Miss Universe franchises in 65 countries at prices up to $5,000 each adds more pennies to the pot, Landon said. But Landon said the fran chise sales are a break even project to insure high quality entries In the big show each year at Mianl Beach Audito rium. There's even some cash in the pot for the winner who takes home $10,000 outright, another $10,000 for her services during tne year, a $7,500 chinchilla jacket, stacks of lesser prizes and an experience to last a life time. And Landon said she is guaranteed a seven hour work day during her year in the spotlight probably seven days a week. Some girls balk at the prospect.

"We have more girls than any beauty pageant in the world, an ywhere anytime," Landon said. "And you look at them, they're beautiful women, but just children really kids. 1 Aittesjcra JSock Prices urd Prom Pag IIS) 'c (hds) High Lew Ll Chg 4 Kit 13 The wedge, wheel and axle. lever, inclined plane, screw and pulley are usually defined as the six 'simple" machines or tools.
