The big right hander hurled the first Hudson Valley Rookie League no hitter of hit career to blank the Pawling Quakers 7 0. The victory enabled Poughkeepile to advance to the best of three Northern Division playoffs against Kingston, beginning tonight at 7 o'clock at Diets Stadium In Kingston. The only Inning In which Roach appeared to lose his poise a bit was the sixth, when he hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. "In the sixth, I started trying to aim the ball Instead of Just throwing It tike I should have been." said Roach.

It almost cost him the no hltter, as Tim Netllgan pulled a ball just outside the bag at third. "It was close, but foul by about a foot," said Laser third sacker Larry Johnson. Roach regained his composure to fan Nelllgan looking with a screwball. "That was my best pitch tonight, the screwball," he said. "My fastball was working well and the curve was o.k." The Quakers managed to hit only two balls to the outfield off Roach, who struck out three and walked one.

Laser second baseman Al Vlani made a spectacular play In the first Inning which became even bigger as the game wore on. Vianl raced into short right field to make a running, over the head grab of Tom Nelllgan's line drive.
