Poughkeepsie Mrs. DeFazio was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook. Born in Millbrook on Oct. 29, 1908, she was the daughter of Henry G.

and Clara Soccorsi Ciferri. She married James DeFazio at St Joseph's Church, Millbrook. Mr. DeFazio died March 14, 1962. Survivors include a daughter, Nikki Caul of Millbrook; grandsons, James E.

Caul of Millbrook and Stephen M. Caul of Poughkeepsie; three great grandchildren; and sisters, Fanny Sorrentino and Dora Ialongo, both of Millbrook. She was predeceased by sisters, Tecla Sherow and Mary Setaro and brothers, A. Edward Ciferri, Alner indo Ciferri, Theodore Ciferri, and James H. Ciferri.

Mr. Pitcher worked at the Retrieval Masters Credit Bureau in Elmsford. He enjoyed sports, hunting, and fishing. He was fond of art and drew oriental pictures and various other pictures. Aaron loved his family.

Magnani survives at home in LaGrange He is also survived by his children, a son and daughter in law, Geoffrey and Cynthia Magnani of Oxford, N.Y a son and daughter in law, Peter and Theresa Magnani of Kingwood, Texas; a daughter and son in law, Katherine and Doug Montdrieff of Phoenix, Az; five grandsons, one granddaughter, a sister, Helen DePorte; nd one niece and one nephew. He was predeceased by a son, Laurence Magnani in February 1973 and a sister, marie Maggiore. Mrs. Davies was associated in business with her husband, with Davies Hardware, retiring in 1987. She was inducted into the Dutchess County Basketball Hall of Fame in February 1981. "Captain Dot" Mrs.

Davies was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Born July 11, 1910 in Monticello, N.Y., she was the daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina Thomann. She was a 1931 graduate of Delhi with a degree in Secondary Education. On Aug 19, 1933.

Douglas C. Wainwright Je Shirley Jean Fromm WAPPINGERS FALLS Shirley Jean Fromm, 66, of Wappingers Falls, died at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001. She was a resident of New York since 1996 and formerly of Camp Hill, PA. The daughter of Charles and Elsie Reeder, who both have predeceased her, she was born Oct.

9, 1935 in Mount Union, PA. She is survived by her daughter, Lane Michelle Lorefice of New York; her granddaughters, Lindsey Lane Lorefice and Leslie Michelle Lorefice. She is survived by her stepson, James Fromm and stepdaughter, Susan Dunn, both residing in Pennsylvania; her four step Jessi and Kyle Fromm and Kasey and Kevin Dunn; her brother, Rick Iteeder of North Carolina; her aunt, Penny Ambrose of Virginia, five nephews; several cousins; her son in law, Ronald Lorefice of New York; daughter in law, Lois FYomm of Pennsylvania, sister in law, Marlene Reeder of North Carolina; and fiance, William Lopez, of Pennsylvania. FISHKILL Douglas Wainwright 83, a resident of Fishkill since 1951, died Tuesday, October ,30, 2001 at his residence. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1936. After working in a civilian position for the United States Army transport service, he joined the Amphibian Engineers, United States Army, participating in the Southwest Pacific and Philippine campaigns, until 1946. After discharge from the military service, he attended NYU College of Engineering, graduating in 1950 with a BME degree.

He joined IBM early in 1952. He held managerial positions in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, New York City, and various other IBM locations, specializing in Building Design and Construction and Plant Engineering. He retired in 1981. He was a member of the RoeJan Creek Boat Club and a life member of the Whortlekill Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his wife, Anna, and three children, Alice, Tyler, John and wife Maria, and granddaughter, Grace.

He leaves a sister, Ruth Hart man of Reading, PA, her husband, Jansen, and their children, Douglas, Constance and Janelle and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call 6:30 Thursday, November 1, 2001 at the Robert H. Atichmoody Funeral Homes, 1028 Main Fishkill. Funeral services will be held Friday at a time to be announced. Jacob Tyler McNamara HYDE PARK Jacob Tyler McNamara, of Hyde. Park, died on October 28, 2001 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla. Jacob was born on October 28, 2001 in Poughkeepsie, the son of Michael S. and Laura A. Heineman McNamara.

His parents survive at home. He is also survived by his sister, Kristen McNamara, at home; his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Sharon Mcnamara of and his maternal grandparents, Edward and Leona Heineman of Greenwich, There are no calling hours. A Mass of the Angels will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Lhapel at 10am on Friday. Arrangements are under the direc tion of the William Miller and Son Funeral Home, Inc, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie New TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE VanHenry "Red" Plass 69, a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, Oct 30, 2001 in the comfort of his home in the Town of Pough keepsie. Mr. Plass worked for the Town of Poughkeepsie Highway Department for 37 years, retiring in 1997. He played dartball in the Poughkeepsie Church League and Dutchess County Grange League. Also, he was involved in the We Totem um Camping Club in Pawling.

Mr. Plass enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and reading. Born in Poughkeepsie on March 7, 1932, h9 was the son of VanHenry Plass Sr. and Florence Barnes Plass. On Sept.

22, 1958 at St. Paul's Church, Poughkeepsie. he married his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Belk nap Plass, who survives at home In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons and daughters in law, Van N. and Kathy Plass of Poughkeepsie and Thomas S. and Kim Plass of Unionvale; a brother four stepbrothers; one sister; one stepsister; granddaughter, Jessica; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 2 4 and 7 9 p.m., Friday, at the William G. Miller Son Funeral Home 341 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot in Pawling Cemetery, Pawling. Ruth B. Riker WAPPINGERS FALLS Ruth B. Riker, 84, of Wappingers Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie. Mrs.

Riker was a nurses aide at Fishkill Health Related Center. She was a member of Electra Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Hamilton, Bermuda; and a member of the United Methodist Church in Wappingers Falls. Born June 8, 1917 in Wappingers Falls, she was the daughter of George W. and Jane Amelia Travis Baxter. She attended Wappingers High School.

Survivors include a son, Richard R. Riker of California; two grandsons; two great grandchildren; two nieces, Jane S. Gioia of Wappingers Falls; Mary S. Gruendle of Wappingers Falls; and one nephew, Donald Baxter of Glens Falls; several great and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, J.

Robert Riker, two sisters, Mildred B. Scofield and Dorothy B. Sagendorf; and a brother, Richard T. Baxter. Calling hours will be 2 4 and 7 9 p.m., Thursday, at Straub Funeral Home 55 East Main Wappingers Falls.

Thomas D. Clarke RHINEBECK Thomas D. Clarke, 67, of Rhinebeck, died on Sunday, October 28, 200l'in the Hospice Unit at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, N.Y. A police officer, he began his career in 1956 with the Islip, NY Police Department In 1958, he became a member of the New York State Police, and relocated from Islip to Rhinebeck. Stationed in both Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck, he served as a Sergeant for 17 years, and was Station Commander at Troop Headquarters in Millbrook.

A Trooper for 27 years, he retired in 1985. On June 5, 1983, he was awarded the American Legion Heroism Award, and on June 13, 1983 the NY State Police named him the "Policeman of the Tom was a member, and former secretary, of the Former Troopers Association, Mid Hudson Chapter, and a member of the Morning Star Christ ian Fellowship in Kingston. A baseball player and fan, at one lime he played semi pro baseball in Montreal as a pitcher and an outfielder, and was asked to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Born in Sunnyside, N.Y, on July 25, 1934, he was the son of Frank and Ann Dimond Clarke. On September 24, 1955 at St Gregory the Great Church in Bellerose, N.Y, he married Geral dine Mary Robertsky.

Mrs. Clarke survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Ge'raldine M. and John Hatfield of Kinderhook; Elizabeth A. and Anthony DeBarros of Reston, Va; a son and daughter in law, Michael T.

and Diane Clarke of Saugerties and a daughter in law, Diane Sullivan Clarke of Saugerties; a brother and a sister, Gerald R. Clarke and Maryanne Clarke both of Carey, N.C.; six grandchildren, Willis Clarke Hatfield; Julien Elizabeth Hatfield; Alexander Damon Clarke; Anastasia Dimond Clarke; Santos Joseph DeBarros and Nino Benjamin DeBarros and two step grandsons, William and Timothy Grant Several nieces, nepehws and cousins also survive. A son, Jonathan E. Clarke, who died on September 16, 1992 and two brothers, Frank M. and Edward Johnathan Clarke predeceased him.

Friends may call on Friday, November 2, 2001 from 2 4 and 7 9pm at the White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market Rhinebeck. Flinerai services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, 371 Wurtem burg Rhinebeck. Minister Steve Simon will officiate. Interment will be in Wurtemburg Cemetery, Rhinebeck.

First music director of New York opera dies PORT WASHINGTON Las zlo Halasz, 96, the first music director of the New York City Opera, died last Friday. Halasz became the opera's first director in 1943. During his eight year tenure, the New York City Opera became an important training ground for young singers. Actress Diana van der Vlis, 66, who acted opposite Walter Pidgeon in the 1950s Broadway hit "The Happiest Millionaire," died Oct.

22. She was born in Toronto, acted in Canada and in 1956 moved to New York, where she landed the role of Cordelia Biddle in "The Happiest Millionaire." She was nominated for a Tony Award. In the next few years, van der Vlis played in the Broadway productions of "Comes a Day," "A Mighty Man Is He," "A Shot in the Dark" and Gore Vidal's "Visit to a Small Planet." She appeared in films and television series, including "The Man From UNCLE" and "The Fugitive." Her films included "The Incident" (1967) and Roger Corman's "Man With the Ray Eyes" (1963).
