3 Journal Spttmbof Obituaries Eliot Wheaton, author and musician, dies at 87 Virginia Maddoz Pelote Williams Antoinette Vasta MILLBROOK Eliot Barculo Wheaton, 87, accomplished author and musician, and former owner of the historic Lithgow estate In the Town of Washington, died Thursday at Sharon (Conn.) Hospital Mr. Wheaton, a Millbrook resident, Was a scholar of the life and worksf J.S. Bach. The work, "Prelude to Disaster," was published by Doubleday. He was born in New York City on March 18, 1900, to Isaac Smith and Helen Falrchild Wheaton.

A graduate of the Hill School, he attended Princeton University before graduating from the David Mannes School of Music in New York City. He had served In the Army during World War as well as with the FBI. The Lithgow estate, which was later sold, was originally an 800 acre property that was part of the Great Nine Partners patent of the 17th century and the residence of the Wheaton family for four generations. It was the birthplace of Mr. Wheaton's great grandfather, Charles Wheaton, a Dutchess County judge.

Mr. Wheaton is survived by a brother. Homer D. Wheaton of Basel, Switzerland; a sister, Margaret W. Tuttle of Concord and West Chop, and two nieces.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, Amenia, by the Rev. Richard A. La Morte. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Amenia.

Ex union leader dies on Long Island WEST HEMPSTEAD (AP) Paul Jennings, a former president of the 198,000 member International Union of Electronic Workers, died at his home here on Labor Day following a long illness. Pelote, both of Savannah, Laura Pelote Henderson, Denver; Phyllis Pelote Edmonds, N.J., and Lydla Pelote 'Poughkeepsie; a stepdaughter, Jnanlta Williams Reynolds, Cleveland; three sons, George and Joseph' N. Pelote, both of Hyde Park, and, Dr. Edward W.

Pelote, Nashville; five sisters, Esther Maddox the Bronx, Hard Maddox of Ellenville, Hilda Maddox of Yonkers, Deborah Lawson of White' Plains, and Dora M. James of Rahway, three, brothers, Levon W. Maddox, Clarence 'JBUMaddoxand John D. Maddox IL all of the Bronx; 28 grandchildren; four great grandchildrengrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements went by the Sidney H.

Jones Funeral Home, Savannah. Antoinette Vasta, 90, a 40 year City of Poughkeepsie resident, died Monday at the Hyde Park Nursing Home. Previously of Highland, she attended Holy Trinity Catholic Churcn, Poughkeepsie. She was born in Sicily, Italy, on Nov. .13, 1896, to Paul and Rosa Silky Becchettt.

Her husband, Joseph Vasta, died in July 1941 Surviving are a daughter, Rose Casulli of Poughkeepsie; two sons, Paul Vasta oft Hollywood, Fla. and Frank Vasta of Poughkeepsie; a sis ter, Nancy Lillis of Poughkeepsie; two brothers, Joseph Becchetti and Paul Becchetti, both of Poughkeepsie; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, 218 Mill SL, Poughkeepsie. Prayers will be offered at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be offered at 9:15 a.m.

Drumgould David Sweet MILTON David Sweet, 63, retired truck driver for the Council Thrift Shop, died Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Castle Point A lifelong local resident, he; was born in Cooperstown (Otsego County) on April 29, 1924, to Charles and Augusta Watts Sweet His wife, Genevieve Velez, died in 1985.

He is survived by three sons, Charles Sweet, and David Sweet both of Milton, and Ronald Sweet of South Carolina; four daughters, Ann Beck of Milton, Jeanie Buda of Flushing, Melody St Angel of Poughkeepsie, and Denise Mochi of Wood bridge, two brothers, Charles Sweet and Arthur Sweet; nine grand 'children; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Awrytis PATTERSON Violet J. Awrytis, 50, a 32 year resident, died Monday at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut after a long illness. Previously of Brewster, she was a former member of the Patterson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was born in Brewster July 14, 1937, to Jessie and Hester Head Miller, and went to school there. Surviving are her husband, Stephen E.

Awrytis; two sons, Stephen E. Awrytis Jr. and John Awrytis, both of Patterson; two daughters, Judy Champlin and Linda Wagner, both of Pawling; three brothers, Jessie Miller of Amenia, Robert Miller of Patterson and John Miller of Holmes; five sisters, Clara Totten and Dolores Barrett both of Holmes, Ida Finney of Mahopac (Westchester County), Dorothy Finney of Storm ville, and Hester Bishop of Wingdale; a grandchild, and nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Dwyer Funeral Home, South Street Patterson.

'Jack" Drumgould, 70, a self employed civil engineer and land surveyor until his retirement in. 1982, died Sunday at Vassar Brothers Hospital, City of Poughkeepsie. A city resident since 1922, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 304, American Legion Lafayette Post No. 37 and a charter member of the mid Hudson Notre Dame Club.

He attended Mount Carmel Church, city. He was born in Northfleld, Vt on Aug. 7, 1917, to John J. and Kather ine E. Nash Drumgould.

He attended Yale University, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame.He was a. first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. Surviving are his wife, Ruth C. Lowery Drumgould; sons John M. Drumgould of Chicago and James K.

Drumgould of Poughkeepsie; daughter Kathleen A. Scully of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and four grandchildren. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the William G. Miller Son Funeral Home 59 Montgomery St, Poughkeepsie.

Auchmoody Jr. NEW PALTZ Floyd E. Auchmoody 61, of New Paltz, died Tuesday in Kingston Hospital after a long illness. He worked as a painter for many years in Jacksonville, Fla. He retired in 1982 to New Paltz; where he grew up He was a World War Army vet eran.

Born June 6, 1926 in New Paltz, he was son of Floyd E. Auchmoody Sr. and Lila Terwilliger Auchnioody of New Paltz. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Donald Auchmoody, of Florida. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
