ARREST MAN WHO TERRIFIED GIRLS Swain Fleetwood, 25 Years Old, a Plumber, Confesses He Chased Young Woman Over Garden St. WAS IDENTIFIED By the arrest on Wednesday of Swain Fleetwood, 26 years old, plumber employed at Henry J. Maar's shop, the police have the who has been terrifying young girls of the North Side the past. few nights by yelling insulting remarks at them as they passed along the street. Fleetwood confessed Chief McCabe that he had been in habit of chasing tine young women over Garden Street each evening about dusk, spitting on their clothing and jabbing them with stick in the end of which there was sharp Fleetwood could -give no reason for his acts.

Chief McCabe went to the home of the mother of the young man and there the weapon Fleetwood had described. It was a fat piece of wood, apparently taken from a packIng case, and cut down to about the size of a short cane. In the end 'the lad had hooked a sharp nail, making It a dangerous weapon with which to stab anybody. The mother of one young woman whom Fleetwood had followed complained to the police and it was through her the arrest was made. The young man was identified by the girl who declared he followed her and struck her in the back with the sharpened stick.

Fleetwood has been married for several years and lives with his young wife at Wappingers They have no children. He takes the 7:15 car back to the Falls every evening. It is believed the police that the young man is demented. A year ago he attempted assault the little daughter this' Vassar College protessor. For he was discharged from Company Tenth Infantry, G.

N. Y. In the present situation he has been suspected for several days, but Chief McCabe' was waiting for more evidence before arresting him. Fleetwood was arrested Wednesday morning at Henry J. Maar's plumbing shop, where he was at work.

He had been closely followed for several days but had, eluded the police in such a manner that their suspicions could not be confirmed. The offenses in each case were committted just at dusk. This puzzled the police. But it turned out that wood, after ending his day's work. Chief McCabe said, would take supper with his parents, in Hoffman Street, I and would then walk around the North Side for a while, following attractive young girls whom he chanced to meet.

APPRAISE ESTATE OF DANIEL GRAY Papers Filed in County Clerk's Office Show East Hermit Was Worth Nearly $15,000. WAS BRASS MOULDER When the appraisal of the estate of Daniel Gray, the hermit of the Stormville mountains, who died several months ago apparently a pauper, was filed. with Surrogate, Gleason Wednesday, it revealed that the old man was worth nearly 000, which was scattered about in eight different banks in New York City. Gray, who was over years old at the time of. his death worked during.

his youth ant early life as a brass moulder in New With the coming of modern machinery, 'he' lost his position. During the thirty or more years he had worked, however, he had sayed considerable money and shortly after he quit his position as a brass moulder, he moved, to a 180 acre farm near the foot of the Stormville mountains, where he lived for thirty years, up until the time of his death. He lived alone on the interests of his savings and all during his residence in this county was a recluse. He had many eccentricities, among them being a fear that some one was trying to get his money or his property. Time and, again he had his property, most of which was wood -land, surveyed in order to make sure.

that bors were not taking possession of his lands. It is estimated that he paid- fully $2,000 to surveyors and civil engineers who looked over his land. Several years ago he built a house on his land which cost several thousand dollars. Later the house burned and thereafter until his death. Gray lived in a roughly built, house of a few rooms.

Had Narrow Escape, Harry Killmer, a carpenter, while repairing an elevator at the Asher Ice!
