Continued Funding Is Favored For County Project Gateway Continued funding of Project Gateway, which provides counseling for inmates and persons released from the Dutchess County Jail, was endorsed Monday by the County Legislature. The county will apply for a federal grant, administered by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services. The county's share of the program is $15,000. According to Charles E. Rich, director of Project Gateway, the program contacted and worked with about 80 persons last year, at a cost of $650 per applicant.

"It is evident that Gateway services are provided at a quite reasonable cost, Rich said. "For each person helped, present and future police, court, jail, or prison costs may well be averted. Welfare costs are similarly avoided for those who have been assisted in obtaining employment." Mr. Tertschnigg GARDINER Gustave Tertschnigg, 96, New Hurley Road, died Sunday at his home.
