It produces a slow-burning candle with a warm glow. The technique is easy and fun for all ages.

Geocaching event set in Ulster County HARDENBURGH The Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower crew will host a special presentation on Geocaching at the summit of the mountain at noon Saturday. Paula Repka, a veteran worldwide geocacher will explain its history and terminology and how GPS technology works. She will also give demonstrations on navigation techniques to help participants find geocaches and show several examples of containers. Repka will place several caches nearby for participants to practice finding and set a permanent geo-cache.

Participants should bring GPS if they have one. Rain moves the event to Sunday. Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk and local folksinger Rich Bala will perform authentic stories and songs about the landscape that inspired Hudson River School artists Frederic Church and Thomas Cole. The Hudson River Ramblers turn the heritage of America's First River into lively performances. Registration is requested. Cost is $10 per person or $30 for families. A $5 entry fee per vehicle will be charged (waived for members of The Olana Partnership).

Leinert, 95, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Born on July 2, 1918 in Stamford, CT she was the daughter of the late Ira Curtis and Lillian (June) Leinert.

On July 19, 1938 in Elkton, MD, she married Robert R. Leinert who predeceased her on January 21, 1990. In 1943, Mrs. Leinert moved from Stamford, CT to Dover Plains, NY. Mrs.

Leinert was responsible for starting a banking program for the children of the Dover High School; a program that continues today. She was also an avid reader, volunteer and a member of the South Amenia Presbyterian Church in Wassaic, NY. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Brady and her husband, Everett, of Dover Plains, NY; two sons, Brace Leinert and his wife, Carol, of Dover Plains, NY and William Leinert of and six grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Beth Brady, Jamie Leinert, Kristi Soucie and Jennifer Lounsbury. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leinert was predeceased by her first child, Bobby, at the age of 4 in 1942.

6TH GRADE OBITUARIES Maria Dores Fragoso Mendes HOPEWELL JUNCTION -Maria Dores Fragoso Mendes, 93, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 23 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kent. Born in Portugal on November 12, 1919, she was the daughter of Antonio and Naz-are Morais Fragoso. Maria had been employed as a nursing home attendant in Yonkers and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wappingers Falls. On February 6, 1943 in Portugal, Maria married Armelin C. Mendes who predeceased her on February 5, 2002.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Maria Mendes of Hopewell Junction; her brothers, Raul, Avelino and Luciano Fragoso; her grandchildren, Richard Coelho, Christine Johnson and Tracy Mendes; her greatgrandchildren, Alex and Alison Coelho, Madison and Brynn Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rosa Coelho in 1981; her grandson, Christopher Mendes in 2001; and her siblings, Jose, Joaquin and Antonio Fragoso, and Lucinda Dasilva. Burgi STAATSBURG Frances I. Burgi, 92, of Staatsburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. A former resident of Port Charlotte, she was born in Poughkeepsie on May 5, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Frances Gawrlyczik. On July 21, 1940, she was married to Frank Burgi, who died October 3, 2006. Mrs.

Burgi was an avid gardener, cook, enjoyed crafts, and housekeeping. Surviving are her son, Frank Burgi and his wife Beverly of Hyde Park, a daughter, Patricia Stoutenburgh and her husband Brook of Jamestown, RI, grandchildren, Elizabeth Skiredg and her husband Adam of Rabat, Morocco, Suzanne Saunders of Davie, FL, and Christine Flinn and her husband Gary of Clinton Corners, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Colonna HIGHLAND Susan J. Colonna 72, a lifelong area resident passed away at her home in Highland on August 19, 2013. Susan was a waitress for the College Diner in New Paltz, the Mohonk Mountain House and most recent the Highland Diner now called The Gateway Diner in Highland. She was an avid reader and loved her animals. She was born in Beacon, NY on October 22, 1940.

She was the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn Riggs. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She touched each and everyone of our lives in her own special way. Survivors include her son; Michael J. Colonna and his wife Jennifer of Highland, her daughter; Karen E.

Colonna of Highland, her grandson; Alexander Householder, her three grandaughters; Analise Householder, Sophia, Gabriel-la Colonna and one niece, two nephews and several cousins. Mary was born July 30, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, NY. She is the daughter of the late William and the late Isabelle (Doyle) Cox. She married Arthur L. Bennett. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur L.

Bennett 1989. In 1976 Mary retired from Montgomery Ward Poughkeepsie, New York where she worked as a Collection Agent. Mary was a lifelong resident, and she loved couponing. She is survived by one son: Rich Bennett and his fiance Christine Rueger of Poughkeepsie, NY; daughter and son In-law, Jean and Jim Rynearson of Bainbridge Island, WA; grandson and wife, Tristan and Kelly of Toms River, NJ; grandson, Keith of Dover Plains, NY; grand-sons, Forrest and William Pauline F. Rothkranz LADY LAKE, FL Pauline F.

Rothkranz, 80, a long time resident of Hyde Park, NY before relocating to The Villages in Lady Lake, FL. in 1994 entered into eternal peace on August 21, 2013. Pauline was born on August 13, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, NY the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys Brower. Pauline was married to Arthur L. Rothkranz on November 23, 1956 who resides in Lady Lake.

In addition to her husband, Pauline is survived by three.
