Obituary of William DeForest Sr
Obituaries William J. DeForest Sr. ' LAGRANGEVILLE - William J. DeForest Sr., 83, a 70 - year resident here and a justice of the peace in the Town of Bcekman, died Wednesday at his Route 55 home. Mr DeForest was an operating engineer for John Arborio & Co. in Poughkeepsie from 1939 to 1961 and was associated with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137. Briarchff Manor (Westchester County) from 1961 to 1972. He was a past trustee and usher of St. Denis - St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction for more than 60 years and belonged to its men's club. Me was a past master of the Sylvan Grange, Stormville, and was Beekman's justice for 10 years. Born in Poughkeepsie Aug. 29, 1903, he was the son of William and Ella F. Synnett DeForest He was married in Copake Falls (Columbia County) June 24, 1925, to Eleanor M. Weaver, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, William J. DeForest Jr. and J. Peter DeForest, both of LaGrangeville; eight daughters, Mary T. Johnston and Eleanor F. Ferland, both of LaGrangeville, Katherine E. Miller of Ancramdale (Columbia County), Margaret A. Parmer of Verbank, Jane P. Whitman of Hyde Park, Julia C. Kinkel of Fishkill, Sue Ellen DeForest of LaGrangeville and Frances C. Antill of Pocatello, Idaho; 39 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren. Calling hours are todayTrom 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McIIoul Funeral Home, Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 9:45 a.m. at SL Denis Church, Beekman Road. Bursal will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
